PBA Bans the Use of 2-Year Old Urethane Balls on Tour

Earlier this evening, the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) sent out an email to all tour bowlers outlining new regulations that will ban the use of 2-year old urethane bowling balls for all future events. Starting on March 7, any “traditional urethane” bowling balls manufactured prior to 2020 will not be permitted in PBA National Tour competition.

The PBA will maintain the right to spot check any bowling balls for compliance with any specifications, at any time. Bowling balls in this category manufactured after 2020 will still be eligible for use.

This decision comes on the heels of the news that 3 Purple Hammers were removed from use in the 2022 Kia Tournament of Champions for failing hardness checks. This also follows the blow-up on national TV by Sean Rash in the 2022 PBA Players Championship in which Rash questioned the integrity of the PBA due to the use of certain urethane balls.

    More info as this develops.
